Collaborate with famous authors

PBL Projects and Ideas #4-Google Suite

GOOGLE SUITE:    The king of all collaboration with #PBL.

Google Suite is truly the King of all things PBL.  With organization tools, collaboration tools, presentation tools, research tools, photo tools it makes the best way to learn in project based.
  • Have your student follow a big event like the NFL season or the Iditarod Race.  Have them watch live coverage of updates.  Create spreadsheets or track Musher Times or Football Stats.  Include photos of players, write bio's, do math with numbers and statistics.
  • Create a stop motion project to illustrate understanding of a book.

PBL Projects #3-Bubbl.us

I love to use bubbl.us with my students.  Its a fun way to organize ideas and present them in a colorful, out of the box way.

Ideas:  Math integration, money, searching, consumer research.
  • Have the students research items to add to a Christmas List (shopping list)?  Have them add the information both manually and with formulas.  Compare and contrast store prices.

  • Ask students to take a budget of $5000 and create their dream bedroom. Make sure they include paint (area, perimeter) and carpet or floor covering.  They need to include a sleeping space and they need to purchase the doors.  Create a bubbl. to organize which store they will shop, or categorize the types of products.
  •  Use bubbl.us to do double bubble comparison map, of anything from nutritional content of two foods, to Author Recommendations.

PBL Ideas #2-Blabberize

Another fun site I use for PBL is called Blabberize.  You can do anything PBL related with this site as it really is a catalyst of product, but none the less its a creative way to get the kids motivated about their project.

A few examples of my students work.

  • Research a famous historical person and find a quote from them.  Resay it in your own words.
  •
  • Do an author search and read excerpts of the stories aloud via Blabber.  Create a QR code to give to the librarian to display the blabber so students can watch a blurb before they read the book.  You can further the project by then creating a Double Bubble Thinking Map (@ConnieHamilton) to try to analyze different essays or Authors to use as recommendations.

PBL IDEAS and PROJECTS- Glogster

Some ideas for #PBL and #TECHED

One of my favorite sites to use while doing project based learning or problem based learning is GLOGSTER:  This site free for individuals.  I recommend using the education settings on Glogster with your students because the content is more kid friendly.  You get a few free student accounts with each teacher account.  If you want more you'll have to pay.  The students love to play with this on their own so it's worth the money if you can afford it.  The cost is $39 per year for up to 30 accounts and $95 for up to 125 accounts.

Excellent example of what Glogster can do!

Some projects the students and I have worked on:

  • Science Integration, Government Affairs and Persuasive Writing- Research invasive species and create a GLOG as a persuasive essay project to convince your community to help you control the invasive species.  You are an expert conservation officer and it's your job to be able to have reasoning behind your poster.
  • Researching explorers and create a culmination timeline to show what you've learned.
  • Older student researching phonemes and creating an alphabet book for the Kindergarteners.  Pair up the students and let your presenters teach the students.  Some examples could be the sh- sound.  Find art, words, foods and movies related to the sound.
  • Create an Author study.  Each time you find a new Author have students add to the Glog.  Create a board to be referenced.  Create a QR Code for the librarian to hang up for the library.  Create a share circle to talk about genre.  Create a double bubble Thinking Map (@ConnieHamilton) to compare/contrast two authors for a recommendation bulletin board.
