Online Hangman

Conversations I have overheard from the second graders.

Wow! I didn’t realize mystery had a "y".  That’s why I guess "I".

We only have one guess left- maybe we should ask Mrs. Sanders what other letter could make the ers - sound.  I thought it was a "e".  On the word SCISSORS.

How to check Flesch-Kincaid Readability Statistics in Word

First, copy and paste the text you'd like to see checked into Word (tm)

Next, choose the drop down arrow located next to spell check icon at the top.  Choose more commands from the drop down pane.

Next,  you'll choose the word that says Proofing on the side panel.

Scroll down after selecting proofing and make sure show READABILITY STATISTICS and grammar & refinements has been selected.

Next, recheck your document if you hadn't before.

After your document has been checked a Readability Statistics box will show up.  It lists for you the total words, average words per sentence, the reading ease, as well as the Flesch-Kincaid Readability.

Exit Ticket Computer Student Self Assessment

I decided to come up with a student self-assessment for the entire year.  I will be using this at the beginning of the year and also at the end of the year as a #growth record.  As you know it's hard to prove growth when you see so many kids.  My lab is structured where I teach Young 5's through 6th grade.  I see each class 45 minutes a day.  It is a work in progress.  I think it's important to know what I can focus on throughout the year and what things my students have mastered so I don't repeat the following year.

If you use this assessment please include a link back to my blog.

SENIORS GRADUATING? CHANGING JOBS?

If you know a senior who is graduating?  They may want to save some of the files or projects that they have created while at a #GAFE school.  The process is relatively easy.   Follow the tutorial below.

If you need more help you can watch the tutorial below on youtube by a fellow #edtech teacher at bit.ly/transferdemo.

Earth Day Challenge

As you may know my husband works as a scientist to protect our environment.  Every time I can help him make the Earth a little cleaner I am up for the challenge.  This particular challenge is so up my alley!  Marvel and Disney, will donate $1 through the Disney Conservation Fund, up to $250,000, to The Nature Conservancy towards The Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees Program for every "like and share".

Check out the rules below!

Check out our #grootdancebomb  Challenge!
And don't forget to "like" and "share" to help donate $1.

3D Printing Learning Speed Bump-HELP

Things have usually come fairly easy to me, um...not this.  I purchased the FlashForge 3D Creator Dual Extruder and I've printed the example traffic cone.  Pretty cool right.  It's two colors and it turned out fairly perfect. I decided to try a snake that I downloaded directly from the software I was using called Replicator.  Cute, although I tried to make him red, as you can see he is white.  Speed bump #1.

I decided to download some radical prints from a site called patternspace.co
Found some super cool Pokemon patterns and downloaded them.  The people on this site are seriously talented!  Maybe someday I'll be able to tackle that.

Then...

I realized I don't know how to flip my pattern to sit flush to the print bed...in the software.
I don't know how to put all the pieces of the pattern into the software.
I don't know what a slice is.
I don't know how to get two colors.
I don't know how to restart after my printer timed out, at the point at which it stopped.
I realized I didn't purchase a scrapper for my finished prints.
I didn't buy any super glue?  Am I supposed to buy super glue? How to I get the head on my Baby Groot.  I don't have to worry about it yet because he is floating around in the software.

If you have struggled like me and would like to quickly teach me what I'm doing wrong I'd really appreciate it!

Love,

Stacy
